Large-bodied and found in open waters. It normally would not appear in urban waters, so it is thought to have come from early ornamental fish facilities or experimental aquaculture systems in the Old City.

During the Dry Season, falling water levels make it unusually aggressive, driving it from the deep sea toward the shallows and giving fishers a chance—assuming they can keep up with its speed.
